I keep getting errors in the messages file on my NIS server from my clients. I was wondering if anybody ever seen this before. Below is the error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sep 17 08:41:40 nis_server ypserv[7913]: refused connect from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:608 to procedure ypproc_match (nisdomainname,hosts.byname;-4)
Do the hosts that are providing this error exist in your hosts map?
ypcat -k hosts | grep <errant host>
Also, I'd check to ensure that your auto_* maps are pointing to valid hosts - if your host attempts to automount a filesystem that has moved or is recorded incorrectly, this type of error may occur.
When searching google et al for hints, strip out most of the error string above and look for this:
ypserv "refused connect" ypproc_match
