VMware and SCO Unixware 7.1.4 Network issue

I am haveing a problem with my VMware ESXi 4.1 server and a virtual SCO UnixWare 7.1.4 server that I need for a legacy application for my company. The problem seems simple but I can't find a solution. The UnixWare (UW) server is a clean install and patched as SCO recommends. I am able to telnet to and from the system without issue. The problem is that i am unable to ping to or from the system. Other VM servers (Windows 2008 Server) on this same VMware server are fully functional so I know it's isolated to the UW system. The vm machine is using the "e1000" adapter since VMware says it's supported under UW. On the UW system I am able to ping both the loop back as well as the static ip assigned to the nic. The netstat command is not showing any errors. The ping command finally times out with the following message:
UX:ping: INFO: no answer from <IP Address>

where <IP Address> is the destination i tried to ping.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I don't know if you solved the problem already, but I just read your question (also having some issues with UW714 and VMware). I also installed UW714 under VMware Workstation.
When I ping to my UW714 I get an answer back, no problem there.
My configuration is: The network adapter has been set to Bridged, and the NIC-adapter in Unixware is: AMD PCnet family mdi driver.
