uname -m - Displays the machine ID number of the hardware running the system.

uname -u - Displays the system ID number. If this attribute is not defined, the output is the same as the output displayed by uname -m.

uname -M - Displays the system model name. If the model name attribute does not exist, a null string is displayed.

bootinfo -m - It displays the machine model code.

what is the difference between machine model code and machine id ?

when you open a support call, you need to know at least the machine serial number, which is uname -u

IBM,0262F4A64

62F4A64 is the serial number in this case
IBM identifies your hardware with this number

but it's also good to know the model name 9117-MMA for example

some applications use the machine ID for licensing, but I've seen this only on older applications, at least I don't have such an application running

thanks very very much yes that's what i want to know exactly
