Sun Fire 280R Sun Solaris CRT/Monitor requirements

I am new to Sun.

I brought Sun Fire 280R to practice UNIX. What are the requirements for the monitor/CRT? Will it burn out old non-Sun CRTs? Does it need LCD monitor?

Thanks.

why do you need a monitor with a sun server? my 280 is two floors under me in the cellar cause it is to loud to be in my work room. all i need is a network line to the rsc card and to the onboard nic.
you can power on and off the server over the rsc and afterwards login to the server via ssh.

If you really do want a monitor attached to your 280 then you will need to install a Sun graphics card, e.g. XVR-100 this comes with a VGA connector although the default resolution is 1152x900 which many monitors do not like so when you set the output-device in the OBP you will also need to set a more standard resolution, e.g.:

output-device = display:1024x768x60

As DukeNuke2 mentioned you may want to get some ear plugs as well!

use a serial connector to your notebook or PC, connect it to Serial Port A.. Left most from the rear.
