Dear All
I am using Core2Duo processor on G31 chipset motherboard
with 1 Gb RAM and 20 GB IDE HDD.

I tried to install Solaris 10 from DVD and it installs Successfully without any error. after the first reboot it stop at GRUB prompt.

I tried to many times with different partitions layout, but all stop at GRUB.

please help me

which solaris 10 version do you use?

#uname -m shows solaris 5.10 Generic120012-14 32 bit

grub version 0.95 and grub menu showing followings

Solaris 10 8/07 S10 xu4wos_12b x86
solaris failsafe

if i selecting 1st menu it stops at Grub or restating the machine.
if selecting fail its booting and can able to mount / to /a

Try to boot from dvd...check whether all the critical filesystems are correctly placed or not ....try to boot for cmd line

go and download the latest solaris 10 version... yours is rather old. there have been a lot of enhancements in the newer versions.

Try to check HDD for errors , possible error in MBL

Dear All

I downloaded Latest version of solaris from SUN
(Solaris 10 10/09 x64/x86 DVD
sol-10-u8-ga-x86-dvd.iso )
and changed my HDD also .'
but it also showing same. Stopping at GRUB and showing error

Error 8 " kernel must be loaded before booting"

Is any comparability issue with Core2Duo Processors and Intel G31 chipset motherboard?
I tried the same in VMware but it not installing .

do you have another os (like linux) installed on the same harddisk?

Dear duke
No, Only solaris OS is loaded.

try to boot to single user mode from dvd (or break installation at any time to become a prompt). at the prompt run "fdisk -B yourdisk" to make a 100% solaris disk out of your harddisk. after that try again with an installation...
