Sendmail processes not running

Hi All!

I am trying to get

sendmail

to work but unsuccessfull...when I run

ps -ef | grep sendmail
    root 10578 10561 0 11:01:24 pts/1 0:00 grep sendmail

I do not see its processes
When I run the following commands:

bash-3.00# svcs sendmail
svcs: Pattern 'sendmail' doesn't match any instances
STATE STIME FMRI
bash-3.00# svcs -a| grep sendmail
bash-3.00# svcadm enable sendmail
svcadm: Pattern 'sendmail' doesn't match any instances
bash-3.00#

But on a working system:

 svcs -a| grep sendmail
online Jul_14 svc:/network/sendmail-client:default
online Jul_14 svc:/network/smtp:sendmail

and

 ps -ef | grep sendmail
    root 698 1 0 Jul 14 ? 129:33 /usr/lib/sendmail -bl -q15m
   smmsp 699 1 0 Jul 14 ? 5:42 /usr/lib/sendmail -Ac -q15m
    root 85276 85245 0 10:44:51 pts/18 0:00 grep sendmail

Please can you help?

have you checked the logs. Try checking its status using:

/etd/init.d/sendmail status

this is what I get

 /etd/init.d/sendmail status
bash: /etd/init.d/sendmail: No such file or directory

and the logs:

---------- Post updated at 11:31 AM ---------- Previous update was at 11:29 AM ----------

here another set of commands that I have runned:

 /etc/init.d/sendmail status
Usage: /etc/init.d/sendmail { start | stop | restart }
bash-3.00# /etc/init.d/sendmail start
svcadm: Pattern 'network/smtp:sendmail' doesn't match any instances
svcadm: Pattern 'network/sendmail-client:default' doesn't match any instances
bash-3.00#

I guess you package is broken, as because:

svcs -a | grep sendmail

should throw a result.

Can you check any update available for sendmail.

Hi

Sorry, but not very familiar with update packages... do I have to check internet?

I'm also new to solaris. Try with this official link:
Installing and Updating Packages - Oracle Solaris Administration: Common Tasks

Hi

I have 1 other server and it has the same problem, so does not seem to be a problem of broken sendmail.....

Any suggestions?

Can you share that logs as well. what OS runs on that server?.

And in what aspect you are saying that it won't be a broken sendmail , so that i can help you better.

sudo apt-get install sendmail

service start sendmail or alternatively start service sendmail (You might want to configure it first tho, sendmail can fsck you up!)

the operating sistem is

solaris 10

, I might be wrong, but I say its not sendmail, because could not happen to two identical systems configured at the same time
