I am planning to choose my career as Unix/Linux Admin or a DBA. But I have come to know from forums and few admins like the job will be 24/7. I have few questions on that.
Can we get "DAY" shifts in any one of the admin Job ?
Can't we have shift timings in any company ?
Eventhough the job nature is 24/7 ..Is it possible us to work in any 8 hours or in day shifts ? ( like 3 persons sharing each 8 hours for a day)
Do we have such companies and any one you people are working on that ?
I dont want to work on neither Rotational shifts Nor Night shifts.
Work as a system admin is similar any kind of work... if you have little experience and are not known to be very good at your work; you cannot pick and choose companies or your schedule to any degree of satisfaction.
If you have a lot of experience and are known to be a very valuable employee, you can often easily pick your company and your schedule.
So, your question really makes little sense, because you ask it in the content of someone who has no system admin experience, and no system admin work track record, yet you are looking for the job and benefits that are typically for a much more senior person.
I am sorry if I was wrong. I have been working in Shell/Perl scripting for past 2.7 years.So I have come to know that Shell/Perl script will really helps in system admin and while choosing my career I should be very concern about it
Because I want to wok 8 - 9 hours/per day , No night shifts or Rotational Shifts or 24/7 which will spoil my health and relationship as well.
Finally I need to work 8-9 hours per day as system admin in DAY time.Do we get that chance eny where ?
Hmmm. Your original post does not mention shell scripting or any technologies; and you only mentioned you are looking for a job with daytime / regular hours.
You mention you have "2.7" years experience; but as I mentioned, many people have more years experience and strong reputations, so naturally they get the better working conditions.
Maybe I'm confused, because in my entire career, I never asked such a question (in a technical forum). Job listing normally list the shift (time of the work), etc; so it's up to you to look at various job boards and other job listings and find something suitable for you.
This is not a job board, it is a technical forum with technical Q&A for the most part; and your question does not really make sense; because it's easy to go to job boards and look for jobs that match your criteria.
In short no, we cannot predict the quality of job you will find or the terms your employer will be willing to give you. I don't think anyone really can. There are good jobs and bad ones, good employers and bad ones, just like every other occupation.
I'd be suspicious of someone who claims they can generally predict such things... They may be trying to sell you something. "you can get 80K/year with this cert", etc.
My opinion better you discuss this in The UNIX and Linux Forums Users Group on LinkedIn As Neo said your question really doesn't make sense, if replier is the owner of company, then he would have answered you nicely, you may get such owners in our forum users group (on LinkedIn).
