Hi,
the english language has no gender neutral pronoun for people - 'it' is only applicable to things, not to persons. So you have the choice between him and her instead - or something totally weird like plural as in 'them'.
For us non-native speakers that seems funny but for native speakers it seems quite normal
This explains it a bit
