Question about FC_AL

I'm incredibly new to the Solaris game, I'm now responsible for managing some SunFire 280R servers. The HDD's appear to be hot swappable (not sure if that's correct) drives that are identified as being arbitrated loop fibre channel.

My question is why use FC_AL for what appear to be the only drives in the machine instead of using SCSI drives?

The disks are hot pluggable. You need to issue commands to detach it before you pull out.
Its a very old system and it's design is such
