Partition combination

Hi all
I've got MacOSX server which is a UNIX based system. I've got 2 partiontion an I like to make just one partition on he disk without loosing any data on part1. Is there a way to do that kind of thing in UNIX or do I have to format everything and put up the system again?
Thanx for reading this.

someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not think it is possible. Your best bet is to backup your data, recreate the partition the way you want it and then restore.

Ahaa.. Parititon Magic from power quest can be used. The latest version came with MAC OSx support. You may try useing it. It undo your partition, make some more partition or combine the partition withot loosing your data inside. (Anyway backup you data too. In case of emergency). Buy the CD from powerquest or visit their webpage for some information.

I'm pretty sure this goes with all UNIX O/S's. I know it goes with Solaris. If you wanted to make the 2 partition HDD into one you would have to backup the HDD.

I'm not to sure/can't remember but I think it may be able to expand one of your partitions but you'll lose any data on the 2nd partition as it'll be getting smaller. Larger I'm not 100% on but think it can be done (Correct if I'm worng).

See when you expand you changing the block count on the partition table. Now that can't over lap any other block count. So your best thing to do it backup the whole drive! Make just the 1 partition then reinstall and recover all your stuff.
