I'm trying to compile nmap 4.11 on an aix 5.2 machine and get the following error when attempting the 'make' command;

"makefile.dep", line 0: make: 1254-027 Cannot open makefile.dep.
make: 1254-058 Fatal errors encountered -- cannot continue.
any ideas or suggestions? I have googled but can not find anything specific to this issue. Thanks
