I need a document with steps to upgrade Symantec Netbackup from 7.1 to 7.5.
Would you please help me on this.
I have Symantec provided pdf but looks like reference book.
I need only steps which is needed to be followed.
Please guide me.
Information about my Server
My Master and Media Server runs on same system with Sun Solaris version 10 OS.
No clustering is done but we have its backup Server as well.
To specify some things, I need to know:-
1.What all services need to be shut down before proceeding,
2.The sequence I need to follow.
3.The Catalog backup stuff
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I would post your question on the Symantec site. I have a support contract with Symantec and the Symantec forum gets me an answer before the techs even get to my ticket. Link below.
Yes,
but Symantec Netbackup 7.5 does not support many OS versions
Check this link
https://sort.symantec.com/checklist/install#report and select as 7.5
below os are not supported:-

manalisharmabe,
I was assuming that since you posted this question in the Solaris section, that you where installing on Solaris. We currently have 7.1.0.2 install on Solaris 10 SPARC (master), Windows 2008 (media - for VMs), Solaris 10 x86 (media) and Linux (Teradata - media). We are testing for the upgrade to 7.5
I looked at the info on the page from the link you provided. From what I read the older versions of Windows don't have 7.5 clients for them. Take note that the NetBackup client and server programs do not need to at the same level to work together. You can still use the older clients to backup the servers until you rebuild the client server to a newer OS.
Some notes from when we did our last upgrade.
1) Name the new backup server the same as the old.
2) Solaris x86 has less NetBackup features then Solaris SPARC
I think best approach will be to open a case with Symantec and ask them to provide you help in NBU upgrade. 7.0 to 7.5 is a minor upgrade and should not cause any problem - however, open a case and they will guide you through the process.
If you have liberty of second free disk in the backup server, then I would suggest to clone the original disk first before attempting upgrade. That will save lots of hassle if things dont go as planned.
I think he wants you to have a clone so that if dive0, with your OS & NetBackup, have issues you with the upgrade. You can then boot from drive1 with the old setup. Much less down time this way.
