Migrate SCO 5.0.6 to different hardware

hi

Howto migrate SCO Unix 5.0.6 to different hardware?
I'd like to try using Acronis.
Which Acronis Version support SCO Unix 5.0.6?

Mircolite Edge Microlite Corporation - Home of BackupEDGE 3.0 is probably the easiest, if just want to replace the hard drive. Depending upon how different the new hardware configuration is, you may have to load new device drivers etc.

Thx, but does Microlite Corporation - Home of BackupEDGE 3.0 cost or is it for free?

BTW Does Acronis support SCO file system and is it HTFS default file system of SCO 5.0.6?

Microlite software is not free, but you can run it for 60 days on full function trial.
I have never used Acronis software.
HTFS is the default file system for all non bootable SCO file systems. /boot is EAFS.
Assuming that you are not using the Desktop (2 user) version, where the default is DTFS, and I think HTFS is unavailable.

THX again, but what about to create an image using g4l and setup it on other hard disk?

Knows someone if g4l does support imaging of SCO Unix?

Yes, but don't expect it to allow you to change the partition size.

BTW knows someone if Acronis True Image 9.1 Server supports imaging of SCO 5.0.6?
I've done an image and recovered on other hardware, but now I have the following:

I've done an image of SCO 5.0.6 using g4l and recovered on another hardware.

Now if I try to start then I'm getting this kernel panic:

CONFIG: No Sdsk SCSI devices configured (unit 0 missing)

WARNING: Test open Failed "hd=Sdsk", no root disk controller

PANIC: srmountfun - Error 6 mounting rootdev hd (1/42)

Error6 opening dumpdev hd(1/41)

Knows someone howto solve this problem?

Yes, do it the way I suggested.

I'll do, but there are 2 different hardware with different hard disks.
SCO 5.0.6 is running on IDE HD and I'd like to migrate it on SCSI HD.

Either use Backup Edge, or do a fresh install OS the new hardware. You cannot simply copy the partition from one style of disk controller to another.
What SCSI Controller do you expect to use?
Is there a device driver for SCO 5.0.6 available?
With Backup Edge, you have to create a target kernel on the old system.

Thx, but is it possible to create a boot CD of BackupEdge, boot from this CD and create an image of whole SCO 5.0.6 system?

Not quite, Install BackupEdge, use it to do a full system backup, use it to create an emergency boot cd and boot from it to the new hardare.
BUT you have to create a target kernel for the new hardware on the old system.
There is instructions on how to do this in the BackupEdge documentation, and also in the SCO documentation.I need to restore my data from a Compaq server running with the Smart Array 3200 (ida) to another Compaq server running with the Smart Array 431 (clad) using BackupEdge.
Otherwise you will not be able to boot from the new disk. The disk controller model is part of the kernel, and is not discovered at boot time.
When you boot using the BackupEdge CD, you can run fdisk and divvy to partition the new hardware appropriately. You can then mount the partitions and do the restore, effectively re-sizing the partitions.

Thx, I will try, but do I need an IDE hard disk in the new hardware?
Does it run SCO 5.0.6 on SCSI hard disk as well?

Go to the SCO web site, and look at the supported hardware list.

SCO |

If what you have is not in the list, you will have to contact the component manufacturer to see if they provide a device driver.
Also, just because an item is in the list, does not mean the the driver is on the original OS CD.

No, but the new system would boot immediately, and without the need for a target kernel, if you were to use an IDE drive as the boot drive, and then add SCSI (RAID ?) for the application and data.
I have not tested using a SATA drive in compatible mode with 5.0.6
