Anyone know of the best tools for the job, I've used
vmstat, prtdiag and dmesg but want somehting to really interogate the memory and report.

If you are looking for hardware diagnostics, then this link to SUNsolve should help.
For performance tuning - tuning on 2.6, 2.7, 2.8
You might find a good script on BigAdmin (SUN's collection of submitted scripts and such)
Another (and probably the best) one to look at is Performance Q&A by Adrian Cockcroft
Thanks I've got the usual scenario Oracle won't believe anything less than SUN coming and physically checking the mem at hardware level thanks for the tip
