--Did a full reinstall of liveupgrade2.0 directly off the sol10u5 image and it STILL "cannot unmount miniroot"

Any ideas?

Looks like luupgrade IS working even though the verification of the image would NOT work, so I'm moving forward...

Are you using the correct media? what h/w are you working on? sparc or x86 ?

sparc

I ran the luupgrade as mentioned in the end of last post, went all the way through and finished but...

WARNING: <699> packages failed to install properly on boot environment <1stLU>.

whats the last line of the whole message output? does it say partially completed or upgrade successful?

WARNING: <302> packages failed to install properly on boot environment <1stLU>.
INFORMATION: The file </var/sadm/system/data/upgrade_failed_pkgadds> on
boot environment <1stLU> contains a list of packages that failed to
upgrade or install properly.
INFORMATION: Review the files listed above. Remember that all of the files
are located on boot environment <1stLU>. Before you activate boot
environment <1stLU>, determine if any additional system maintenance is
required or if additional media of the software distribution must be
installed.
The Solaris upgrade of the boot environment <1stLU> is partially complete.

Did you ever attempt to activate the BE and see if it can be booted?

Not as of yet, actually I reran luupgrade a couple of times, the original 699 not installed dropped to 330 then 302 then 301... About to give luactivate / init 6 a shot...

Yah, no go. Wouldn't boot to the partial upgrade at all. None of the things I tried would let the system boot to the PREVIOUS boot environment either.

Liveupgrade... I am SO glad this was not attempted on a real prod or dev system.

I'm not giving up yet, i've installed Solaris10u3 on the 2 test systems and am going to proceed. I AM marking off liveupgrade as a sol8-10 path possibility.

Sun always amazes me at it's complete lack of sanity checks, dependency checks and the like, things such at the 2 year old kernel patch that "forgets" to run boot update, leaving a system completely unbootable. Most operating systems would consider UPDATING the patch, not leaving it out there broken.

but I digress. Moving on to Solaris 10.
