Greetings!
Here's something which I came across whilst mucking about with a UNetbootin thumbdrive install of 12.04 (I suspect this would apply to other variants as well).
Here's the scenario:
As an experiment before burning to flash, I generated a comprehensive md5sums.txt for the entirety of root; replacing the original short listing with a complete one. In doing so, I swept boot.cat onto the roster for verification.
Curiously, upon generating the iso, the sum for boot.cat seems to change in the process. FWIW, touching the two file specimens (pre- and post-iso) with identical timestamps won't bring the sums into agreement. The files are a match sizewise, and all seems to function OK when run...
The question: Is this a known behavior (and, hence, the abbreviated original sums listing), or is this truly out of the ordinary? What might be at work here?
Anyone know???
Thanks!
