Installing TL/ML's

Question from an AIX noob --

I recently installed an AIX box with what I thought was recent 5.3 media. After the install it was at ML 5300-00.

My question is, it seems as if each ML/TL needs to be installed prior to the next - which currently makes 6(?) updates. Am I missing something - is there a way to do this cumulatively?

You can install the latest without installing all the intermediate steps. For our Daylight Savings project we decided on a particular TL and Service Pack and applied that to all AIX servers regardless of which ML or TL they were at to begin with.

Yes, you can install the latest TL directly.

Be careful as this can open a can of worms! It is quite acceptable to jump a few TL levels as long as the prerequisites are all there. However if the prereqs are absent the update can fail with dire consequences.

Download the TL directly from the IBM Website. When you get to the packaging options, use "lslpp -Lc " on your system and upload that text file to the website. The site will create the correct TL filesets for you and then go for it.

It works, you will have no issues. Start from the following URL.
