installing solaris from PC

Hi all ,

Is there a way that i could install Solaris 9 on an E2900 server from my pc/laptop DVD ???

Cheers

Absolutely.
If you are running solaris on the laptop, just set it up as a jumpstart server (by running the make_install_server script off the solaris DVD) then start a network install on the E2900. Pretty easy and there's loads of guides available.

If you are running windows on the laptop, you'll need to install and setup a bootp server, a tftp server and an NFS server on the laptop to serve up boot info, a kernel, and a mini-root and media image respectivly. Not trivial but certainly doable.

Thanks ,

Just another thing related to that , Can i use a live server and set it up as jumpstart server ... will that affect the performance or the integrity of the live system .... ???

cheers

Yes, no in that order.

A live server is fine, the only thing is to be sure you have enough space for the image and that the NFS load won't adversely affect network bandwidth dependent apps you are using.

You can even use a vmware image of solaris x86 running under Windows.
