installing software

hi,

i have installed suse linux (10) at my home.
can anyone tell me how do i install the softwares like players , messengers etc.
i am new to linux ,i am learning now.
can anyone suggest or post any material so that i can easily go through and learn.

thanks in advance.

vishwa.

Suse comes with Yast - great tool, either ncurses based or GUI version.

Also,

Unless you are married to SUSE 10, I would really recommend OpenSUSE 11.0. The speed improvements to zypp packages (the package manager) as well as the overall polish make it a real winner.

You can use The 'yast' tool to install your software
Or you can download the RPM package, and run 'rpm -ivh *.rpm' to install
also can configure the source.

PS:SUSE should have the YUM command ,you can try it...
good luck

starlimac, you're wrong, yum doesn't come with SuSE by default, though you can have it working, allegedly - here's an article.

Yes sysgate , you are right

sorry , I always used DEBIAN:p
