;)Hello everyone,I'm a new FreeBSD user,I don't know how to intall the BSD on desktop, please help me ~~ Thanks~~:D
Hello,
i don't know what "install the BSD on desktop" means, but if you are looking for an Newbie friendly DesktopOS with FreeBSD under the hood --> Try PC-BSD - Home
Thanks a lot
What kind of desktop? Do you want an actual desktop environment or what? Have you even installed FreeBSD yet?
it all pretty much installs and configures itself. your main issue will probably be getting xorg configured. which is still very simple... given that you know hor/vert refresh rates and what video card you have. you have questions, i have answers.
I downloaded DesktopBSD1.6 and wanted to install it.
but it couldn't start X and gave me a shell !
I had once installed PCBSD and it didn't have any problems.
any one having the same problem? or know what to do?
maybe you don't configure the xorg.conf
sometimes X would not be started if we do not configure the xorg.conf
do like this at /root:
Xorg -configure it will create a file xorg.conf.new
X -config xorg.conf.new
you can get more infomation at X11 Configuration
were is the xorg configuration file kept in freebsd 7.0?
IS FreeBSD UNIX or Linux
It's UNIX, just like Linux, but based on the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSDv4 if memory serves correct)
bsd is nothing like linux. linux is NOT unix.
can you post your Xorg.0.log file?
