Hostid "nvram"

Hi;
what are the steps to modify the hostid and ethernet address "nvram content" of Sun ultra 5 and Sun ultra 10 machines, simple steps if available would be appreciated

Ultra 5 P/N 380-0176-01
ultra 10 P/N 600-3796-02

You can't modify the hostid - it's set and can't be changed by a command - if the battery that powers the NVRAM dies, you have to get a replacement chip from SUN (or other source) but you can't change the new hostid to be the same as the old.

Same problem as above - exception is if you are trying to change the ethernet address on a qfe card to use it's internal instead of the host's - set local-mac-address? to 'true' at the ok prompt

sry RTM, not true at all:
see the hostid howto

it's a small crack, i did it 2 times, on a Ultra2 and on a Ultra10, worked fine....

to change the ethernet address temporally you could use the command ifconfig:
# ifconfig qfe0 ether <new-mac-addr>
