hme0 babble -- ?

Dear Reader,

I have a very unique problem. Quite often my on board ethernet port( hme0 ) related message is appearing in /var/adm/messages.
The message is hme0: babble.. The port is up and alive.

What does this message mean.. Is the on board port is about to fail??

Thanks in advance,

The max size of an ethernet packet is 1518 bytes. A "babble" means that for some odd reason your box transmitted one longer than that. I would not suspect hardware if everything else is working. I would suspect software. The IP layer is responsible for seeing that this doesn't happen under TCP/IP. If you're bypassing TCP/IP, it becomes your responsibility.
