Hardware RAID

I don't understood why on SPARC-Platforms have not present RAID-Controller ? Sorry for my bad english, but it's crazy always setup software RAID !!! I whanna Hardware RAID and when i can find solution ?

Try ZFS and reconsider your opinion about software RAID.

if you want hardware raid -> buy hardware raid!

If you want to waste your money, waste your money.

Some experts say ; HW RAID is better in general reliability than SW RAID after a reboot sometime SW RAID machines had problem in spite of that RAID 1 mirror is most reliable in category as its Performance is best during failure. Some notes about performance:

Striping generally has the best performance, but it offers no data
protection. For write-intensive applications, RAID 1 performs better
than RAID 5.
l RAID-1 and RAID-5 volumes both increase data availability.
Mirroring improves random read performance.
l RAID-5 volumes have a lower hardware cost than RAID-1 volumes,
while RAID-0 volumes have no additional hardware cost.

hello there,
there are a few sun sparc server which "allready" support hardware raids
for instance FireT1000, T2000, T5120 or T5220. (setup done with the raidctl command). Also as allready mentioned above raidz (zfs raid) is a good alternative to that.
cheers

but (afaik) this is not a real hardware raid! better use an external raid-box with fcal or scsi controller...

We did some tests in these T* servers, but soft RAID is better in RAID0 .
