Most commonly they are not the same. To see what kind of messages go to /var/adm/messages
and which go to /var/log/syslog
, check /etc/syslog.conf
Thanks for your response bartus11. So both these files contains system generated error messages right??Do i need to make any changes in /etc/syslog.conf to get /var/log/syslog messages.Or it is a default setting in the OS?
Thanks in Advance
From what I can see on Solaris servers that I have access to, /var/log/syslog
is used to log mail related messages. For system messages /var/adm/messages
is used.
