connecting to internet

I have installed Solaris 8.0 and want to find out how can I go in and change my network setup and external IP setup. At the moment system running but I can not connect to the internet. But my lan card shows that I am on the network. I also get some advice that I should check the $Socks but how do I do this

You need to bind your ethernet card to your IP drivers using the ifconfig command. You need to tell the kernel how to route packets using the route command. You need a good book on TCP/IP networking. Last year, one was recommended and we have put all last years recommendations in one place:

The book you want is the one with the crab on the front. This is the best TCP/IP networking book and the one most recommended to beginners.
