configuring xdm on s10\open solaris

can someone hlpe me to use a X display manger to oepnsolaris

I'm using 79a & have setup XMING on a windows client

On the Solaris box I notice that XDM is not running, which i assume is essential for xming\client. I've read somewhere that to enable XDM i need to run gdmconfig so i've
# xhost+ ; DISPLAY=:0.0;export DISPLAY ; gdmsetup
I get back
"gnome display manager is running, using KDE or CDE(dtlogin) or xdm"

I'm confused..'dtlogin' is running, (gdm is not) but i'm clearly using Gnome, gnome games, java icon on the start menu, etc.

thanx in advance

opensolaris uses GDM as window manager. this should be enabled by default. check it with:

svcs -a | grep -i gdm

thanx! gdm was disabled,(bizzare gdm & gnome are't the same thing)) still going through other things but will let you know the result

gdm isn't a window but a login manager. If you enable gdm, you need to disable dtlogin first.

right... fault on my side...

dtlogin is no longer running, presumabled as a affect of enabling gdm
also issued a
# svcadm disable cde-login
Managed to bring up gdmconfig & enabled remote hosts ( xdmcp)

The effect seems to be one-step-backwards as xwin no longer asks for authentication before bombing-out
ipfilter (which i assume is S10's firewall) isn't running
