Hi Grue, I am very new in AIX/UNIX environment. Please give me answer that during the upgrading or Migrating to 6.1 the AIX Server the applications of this server is accessible to Apps users or not? Thanks
That depends on which method you employ to upgrade your server and what exactly you understand under "upgrade or migration".
If you mean a OS level upgrade: it can be done several ways. One way would be a "alt-disk-install", durich which the system will be available, save for a reboot.
If you mean hardware upgrade and/or DLPAR migration: yes, this is also possible while the system is under load. Hardware chamges itself can cause downtimes, depending on what you want to change and how much hardware you have: Memory and CPUs need a downtime of the machine, but with enough hardware resources you could live-migrate the LPARs to (an)other machine(s), do the upgrade and migrate them back.
All these methods depend on a certain infrastructure which you may or may not have available. So tell us, what you want to do, what you have and we give you a honest anwer instead of throwing around wild guesses.
