AIX 5.3 performance problems

Hello,

I encounter some performance issues on my AIX 5.3 server running in a LPAR on a P520. How do I investigate performance issues in AIX. Is there any kind of procedure that takes me to the steps to investigate my server and find the sub systems that is causing the issues?

The performance issued encountered is that user logging in to the server with telnet encounter hiccups in the screen updates. They use a text based application and sometimes the screen updates do not follow the keyboard input immediately. It can take up to 5 seconds for the screen to update. To be more precise: When they hit F1-F2-F3-F4 it sometimes stays at screen F1 and then after some delay it will step through screens F2, F3 and F4 . At other times the application/system will just quickly step through the screen when the Function keys are pressed.

At first glance I cannot find a related CPU, Disk, memory or network problem but I'm not knowledgable enough to to know for sure.

So is there any performance investigation procedure for AIX?

Few commands like topas, nmon , vmstat, lparstat. iostat
