Adding Fonts to Solaris 2.8

Does anyone know the location where to place a series of new fonts, so its asseble by general applications (equiv. to C:\WINNT\Fonts) in WIN2000.

Thanks

Default Font Locations

By default on a Solaris system, the
base directory is
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts

Directory File suffixes Contents
--------------------------------------------------------
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi *.pcf Bitmap Fonts
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi *.pcf Bitmap Fonts
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/F3/afm *.f3b F3 format outline fonts
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/map *.map F3 character set specifications
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/F3bitmaps *.pcf Bitmap Fonts
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo *.spd Bitstream Speedo format outlines
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/Type1 *.pfa *.pfb Type1 outline fonts
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/afm *.afm Adobe font metrics
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/outline *.pfa *.pfb Type1 outline fonts
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/prebuilt *.bept *.lepf Bitmaps for SPARC(R) Solaris[TM] and X86
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/Xt+ *.pcf Bitmap Fonts
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/Type3 *.ps PostScript outline fonts
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/encodings *.enc Encodings
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/misc *.pcf Bitmap Fonts

In Solaris[TM] 2.4 or later, CDE (SPARCdesign[TM]) adds a new set of fonts:
/usr/dt/config/xfonts/C
Suffix Meaning
-------------------------------------
.pcf.Z Compressed Bitmap Fonts

By default on a SunOS[TM] system, the
base directory is
/usr/openwin/lib/fonts

Suffix Meaning
--------------------------------------
.afb Adobe ASCII format bitmap font file
.afm Adobe ASCII format metric file
.bdf Adobe/MIT BDF2.1 format file
.f3b F3 (outline font) file
.fb X11/NeWS font binary file
.ff X11/NeWS Font family file
.fm X11/NeWS font metric file
.ps PostScript language font file
.vft V font format file

Ta, I was wondering can i also add the corresponding pfm files in the Type 1 directory (NB these are russian pfm and pdb fonts). Also, i noticed some fonts, such as the TrueType (*.ttf) are mapped in files like fonts.dir and fonts.scale. Would this be neccesary with the *.pfa *.pfb?

Thanks
