Actively merge kde 3.x and gnome 2.x menus

ok, here's the scoop, google has similar, but nothing that quite fits the bill. here is what I'm up against:

i have a linux system that is running both kde 3.x and gnome 2.x, selectable via gdm.

the kde 3.x app menu is heavily modified and i'm looking for a way to import that over to the gnome menus. aside from the sheer volume of effort, that is the relatively easy part.

however, future additions/deletions/modifications to the kde menu have me concerned about compatability.

so, what i really need is a script that will compare the menu structure of kde 3.x to the gnome 2.x menu and if any differences are found, make modifications to the gnome menu as required (to bring it into compliance with the kde menu structure).

i know this is a tall order, so i thought i would ask if anyone has any aces up their sleeves, any applicable wisdom that they might be willing to impart before I waste a ton of my man-hours trying to figure out if this is even possible ( i am NOT a scripting guru... the learning curve would be painful).

i appreciate the interest that you have shown so far and i am looking forward to any possible ideas or solutions that are offered. have a great day, all.

peace
